From Wax to Wonder: A Story of Creating and Curating
The Story Behind My Creative Projects
I’ve always loved making things that bring people joy or help them feel calm. Over the past few months, I’ve been working on themed hampers and ritual kits, and it’s been a really interesting journey. For me, it’s not just about the final product—it’s about imagining, creating, and putting everything together.
How It All Started
It began with a simple idea: what if a gift could tell a story? I wanted each hamper or kit to be more than just a box of items. I wanted it to be an experience. Even small things, like the scent of a candle or the feel of a bath bomb, can make someone stop, relax, and enjoy the moment.
Making My Own Candles
One of my favourite parts of this process has been making my own candles. I get to choose the wax, the scent, and the colours, and see them come to life from start to finish. It’s really satisfying to watch a plain block of wax turn into something beautiful and fragrant. I love experimenting with different shapes and scents to see what feels just right for each kit.
A typical day of candle-making starts with melting the wax on the stove, carefully checking the temperature, and mixing in the scents. Then comes the fun part—pouring the wax into moulds or jars and arranging the wicks just right. Finally, I let them cool and sometimes decorate them with little touches like dried flowers or coloured layers. By the end of the day, I always feel proud of what I’ve created.
Finding the Right Items
Besides the candles, I spend a lot of time picking other items, like soaps, bath soaks, and little treats. I look for things that feel special, like old-fashioned sweets that bring back memories or soft soaps that smell amazing. Every choice matters because it’s part of the story each hamper or kit tells.
Creating the Siren’s Sanctuary Kits
After making hampers, I wanted to do something even more creative. That’s how the Siren’s Sanctuary Kits were born. I wanted to capture the calm and beauty of the sea in a small box. Each kit includes things like my handmade candles, bath soaks, and a little ritual scroll to guide someone through a relaxing moment.
I even made three levels of kits. Some are simple and calming, others are more immersive and detailed. I wasn’t thinking about selling—I was thinking about how it would feel to open it and use it, and how each item could make someone pause and enjoy the moment.
What I Learned
Creating these projects taught me a lot about patience, attention to detail, and imagination. Making the candles myself made me appreciate the craft behind every object. I also realised that the process itself is creative, not just the end result.
Even if no one else saw these kits, making them would still have been rewarding. I enjoyed thinking about the little stories each item could tell and how people might feel when they used them.
Final Thoughts
For me, the best part of creating these hampers and kits has been the journey. The careful choosing of items, making the candles, arranging everything, and imagining the moment when someone opens it—it’s like capturing little bits of joy and calm in a box. And that’s what I want my creations to be: small stories, carefully made, that bring a little happiness to everyday life.
